It had rained really hard the night before we arrived and the streets were still flooded. That night we stayed in the house and got settled. Couldn't even play on the outside porch because it was soaked, too. This is what we saw when we got to OC.
The next morning, Grandma and I took L for a beach stroll to pick up shells. She's such a waterbug and can't seem to get enough sand between her toes.

After lunch, the weather was still a little dreary, so we walked to the nearby SeaShell Museum to check out their treasures. While there, we bought some shells and the kids got their photo taken in a huge shark's jaw. Here, J figures out why Ariel wears those big clam shells!
M & L have fun sorting their shells by size.
We finally made it to the beach, but you can see how stormy the skies were.
Daddy's the official 'anchor' in the surf ... throwing a football with the boys in the sand.
Getting braver...off they go alone!
On the boardwalk, Daddy took M for his first round of miniature golf....he got 2 holes in one!
Riding in a namesake and on a yellow submarine...
A final ice cream treat at the end of the day
And what trip to the shore would be complete without an old-timey photo?
Goodbye, summer 2009! We had a blast!
